  9. Analyze Performance and Scale

Now that i have listed for you the steps, let me take you through each of them.

My objective is to further explain why they are important in building your baseball YouTube channel

How to Build Your Baseball YouTube Channel (Step-by-Step)

I want you to spend a few minutes with me in this section

And by the end of reading these nine steps, you will be in a position to start a channel

My goal is to help you create an income-generating baseball YouTube channel

Step 1: Know Your Why, and Your Audience

The first step in starting your baseball YouTube channel is knowing your ‘why’.

You need to be clear on why you want to start a baseball YouTube channel, and who you want to reach.

Being clear on these two things provides you with clarity on why you are doing this.

You do not want to be confused or just start a YouTube channel for the sake of it.

It is also a mistake to imagine that your channel will be about or will cover everything.

Do you want to entertain baseball fans with commentary and game analysis?

Are you seeking to teach players through drills and training tips?

These are some of the questions you must answer before starting your baseball YouTube channel

If you are an entrepreneur or business-minded, you might be interested in talking about the business side of baseball.

This would involve creating video content on sponsorships, how baseball players make money, baseball team revenues, and baseball stadium economics.

knowing your reasons for starting a baseball YouTube channel helps you stand out and attract the right audience or viewers.

My suggestion would be that you focus on one or two aspects of the baseball sport, and grow from there.

Step 2: Find Out if Your Niche Works

The second step when starting your baseball YouTube channel is to research and validate your niche or topic.

It is very important to do a little homework before you invest time, money or energy into this project.

You want to search on YouTube and see what other baseball creators are doing.

Look for what is popular, and also what is missing

Finding content gaps provides you with a huge opportunity to create something new, and gain an audience.

For example, not many baseball YouTube channels dive into the financial side of baseball sport.

Your channel can focus on that aspect, providing in-depth content about business and financial situation across the baseball value chain.

This could be your unique angle.

You can use tools like Google Trends, TubeBuddy, VidIQ, or simply the YouTube search bar to find topics people are already searching for on the internet.

A very refreshing way to go about research, though time-consuming, might be to talk to other baseball fans.

Doing that might also provide you with first-hand raw insights into the kind of content baseball community is looking for or interested in.

Step 3: Make Your Channel Stand Out

The third step when it comes to starting your baseball YouTube channel involves creating the channel’s brand identity.

Your baseball channel needs to look and feel professional.

However, I do not want you to be hung up on these things, as you might waste a lot of time trying to create the perfect brand.

Start by picking a short, and catchy name that clearly connects with baseball.

Next, design a simple logo and banner, using a tool like Canva which should make your work easy.

I do use use Canva for all of my design work, and I highly recommend you consider using it as well.

Your channel’s branding should reflect the style of your content

For example, if you are covering baseball highlights, go for bold and exciting visuals.

And if you are focusing on training or business, you might consider having a clean and a professional look

When creating or building your baseball YouTube channel, a strong identity helps people to remember and trust your channel.

Step 4: Create a Plan for Your Content

The fourth step of starting a baseball YouTube channel is where the fun stuff begins.

You are going to spend time and focus on developing your video content strategy.

I want you to think of your channel as a TV show with regular themes.

The idea here is that you need to come up with or choose 3 to 4 content pillars that will guide your videos

Your content pillars are the overall themes or types of content you will cover on your baseball YouTube channel

For example, you could focus on the following;

  • Baseball Games Analysis
  • Training Tips in Baseball
  • Gear Reviews in Baseball
  • Baseball Business

One you have these content pillars, you will then decide on a schedule on how you are going to create your YouTube videos

You might decide to create one, two or three videos per week.

Having a content schedule is important as it helps you to become a consistent content creator.

And let me tell you a secret; consistency is key on YouTube

Your success with your baseball YouTube channel depends on how consistent you are going to be in the long term.

Step 5: Get Basic or Essential Equipment

Step 5 of starting your baseball YouTube channel is about the essential equipment and tools you need to turn your dream into a reality.

The truth of the matter is that you do not need to spend thousands of dollars to start.

You need very basic equipment and tools to start a YouTube channel

A good smartphone with a tripod, decent lighting, and a clear microphone can do the job.

If you are filming yourself, make sure your background is clean and where possible, make it relevant.

What I mean is that you can film at a baseball field, training cage, or by just having posters of your favorite team and players in your background.

If you videos are more about baseball game analysis, you might need to learn how to use screen recording, and to add a voice-over.

As for the editing, you can use editing software such as Davinci Resolve, Capcut, or Adobe Premiere Pro to help you cut out mistakes and make your videos smooth or professional

I use Davinci Resolve to edit my videos and so far, I have enjoyed using this editing software.

You do not need to go to school to learn how to use Davinci Resolve, or any other video editing software.

Just spend some time on YouTube watching tutorials on how to edit your videos, and you are going to at least learn the basics, which might be all you need right now.

Step 6: Learn Basic YouTube SEO

The sixth step in starting a baseball YouTube channel is about learning the basics of YouTube SEO

In very simple terms, you are going to spend time learning how to optimize your videos for search engines, and for discoverability.

YouTube is a search engine, and in fact, it is the second-largest search engine on the planet

It is second to Google Search, and both are owned by the same parent company, the Alphabet.

We are not going into the corporate structure of YouTube or Google just yet, but it is good to know that search is at the heart of your YouTube activities.

The reason why you need to understand how YouTube search works is because even if you make the best videos, your audience will not find them unless you optimize them well

And to do that, you need to know the holy trinity of YouTube which is thumbnail, title, and hook (TTH)

Start with your title, which should be clear and catchy

For example, you can create videos titled ‘Top 5 Baseball Drills for Beginners’ or ‘How MLB Teams Really Make Money’

Next, you need to create thumbnails that grab attention.

The idea is yo use bright images, bold text, and action shots

On the hook, this is what you are going to say or show in the first 5 to 30 seconds.

It is very important that you capture or grab the attention of your target audience in those first 30 seconds, to ensure that they are hooked to the content you have created.

Marketing and Branding Your YouTube Channel

Now, while some of these things are tactical, it is important to think about them when starting a baseball YouTube channel.

One of the lesson I have learned by being on YouTube is that marketing and branding can sometimes be more important than the content in your videos

It does not make sense to spend hours on the content, and ignore the thumbnail, title and the hook

This is because if someone does not see your thumbnail and click to watch, it will not matter because they will not watch the great content you created.

I would argue that you should spend as much time on your video packaging as you do on your content.

Use the 80/20 principle

Spend 80% of your time on packaging your video, and 20% on the content.

Step 7: Record and Upload Your Videos

Step seven in creating your baseball YouTube channel is where the road meets the rubber

This is where you are going to turn your content plan into actual videos

You are going to record, edit and publish your first video

And I can promise you one thing; you are going to be very afraid of posting your video

It is a situation that affects a lot of people, especially if you are a perfectionist.

You are going to feel as if you are not ready, as if your video is not perfect, and you might even suffer from the famous imposter syndrome.

All these things will try to stop you from posting or hitting ‘publish’

Just post, and move on to the next video

You are never going to build a baseball community or create a successful baseball YouTube channel if you do not post your videos

That is why it is important that you just start, and keep at it

From my experience, you are going to feel cringe, and that is a actually a good thing.

I know it sounds crazy , but being cringe shows that you are getting out of your comfort zone

And as you might already know, true personal or professional growth takes place when one gets out of their comfort zone

So, publish your first video

Then get back to work and record your second, third and fourth videos

Step 8: Create Your Monetization Plan

When it comes to starting a baseball YouTube channel, step eight is a very important one.

This is the step that involves figuring out your YouTube business model

What this means is that you are going to focus on how to make money on YouTube, and the various income streams you can build.

Your baseball YouTube channel can make money in a number of ways.

And while the most obvious is the YouTube Partner Program where you make money from adverts, there are other ways or strategies to monetize your channel.

You can be able to generate an income or to earn through affiliate marketing.

This is where you make money by recommending baseball gear, products or services, and earning a commission from the sale.

You could also partner with sports brands for sponsorship or brand deals

And if you have your services like coaching, online courses, or even a baseball-themed newsletter, you can promote them through your channel

The idea when it comes to making money with you baseball YouTube channel is to create or build multiple income streams

As you might already know, having multiple income streams is a great way to improve your personal finances, as well as your business finances.

You can be able to start and build your baseball YouTube channel into a source of passive income.

Step 9: Analyze Performance and Scale

The ninth step when creating a plan on how to start a baseball YouTube channel is all about tracking performance and scaling.

You need to pay attention to what is working, and what is not.

This means being able to analyze the data from the videos you have posted already.

It is important to track the number of views, how long your audience is watching, age of your audience, and location of the people watching your videos.

The best tool you can use for this is the YouTube Analytics.

I consider YouTube Analytics to be one of the best tools when it comes to tracking the performance of your YouTube channel

Analyzing performance is something that allows you to make better and strategic decisions on how to improve your content.

You are going to learn what your audience enjoys the most.

Once you know that, you then create more of that content to attract more viewers

And also build a community of loyal or returning viewers.

As you baseball YouTube channel grows, you can expand into bigger projects like interviews with players

Equally, you can do live Q&A sessions, or even baseball mini-documentaries.

With focus and dedication, you can be able to turn your baseball channel into a profitable online business or brand.

You really cannot ignore the power of tracking how your channel is performing.

But for you to even have anything to track, you must start a YouTube channel and publish videos.
